Good news for British residents living on the Spanish coast! For those who miss their local supermarkets, they can now find more than 7,500 British & Tesco-branded products in a new store that has just opened in Mazarrón (Murcia).

And they plan to open more stores soon - possibly next year - in other coastal Spanish cities and towns, such as Mijas (Málaga) and Ibiza.

Spain’s largest cities might be next, such as Madrid and Barcelona, as well as stores in Portugal and Gibraltar, according to the Spanish newspaper Alimarket.

The Food Co is the name of the new “exclusive stockist” of Tesco in Spain, which will distribute thousands of Tesco products to their stores, including popular Tesco own-brands such as ‘Finest’.

The new 10,000 square foot supermarket in Mazarrón is also packed with dozens of items from popular British brands, ranging from beer and chocolate to cleaning products.

On the day that the store opened, many Britons queued up to be among the first to buy, and many others living in different Spanish cities have asked the supermarket owners about their expansion plans, showing a large interest.

Mazarrón is a town in the Region of Murcia, near the city of Cartagena. The new store is located at 1, Thomas Alva Edison St., next to the Piramide shopping centre in Puerto de Mazarrón.

The Food Co supermarket in Mazarron opens Monday - Saturday from 9am-9pm, and Sundays from 9am-6pm.

"The Food Co -exclusive stockists of Tesco, ranging over 7,500 products both Tesco branded and house hold favorites from the UK- was set up in 2019 in order to bring the very best of the UK food market direct to Spain. A major expansion program is planned in 2020 and early 2021 with the next four stores already confirmed to open in the first quarter of next year", says the company's website.
